When Ask Italian got in touch to tell us about their brand new vegan menu, whispering the seductive words of vegan cheese, we rushed down to the new BH2 branch to give it a try. The branch has only been open a few weeks (below the cinema level) and has been fitted out beautifully. But let's face it, we were there for the food. We were very impressed by the range of the menu. Starters and nibbles include olives, rosemary and seasalt bread, dough balls and bruschetta. We enjoyed a mixed platter which also included a delicious mixed grain salad. The main course choices include three pasta options, but it was always going to be about the pizza for us! As a sister company to Zizzi, who saw a 150% increase in sales from their vegan menu during January 2017, ASK Italian have followed in similar footsteps and introduced the delightfully light and creamy rice based MozzaRisella. You can choose up to three toppings to add to your tomato and vegan cheese pizza - pick from marinated artichokes, sautéed mushrooms, grilled aubergines, caramelised onions, roasted peppers and olives. The pizzas were scrumptious and we were impressed at the generous toppings. They also offer a non-gluten containing base for those who would prefer it. For dessert we opted for the show stopping dark chocolate and blood orange tart, served with raspberry sorbet and what can only be pure magic and love - it was decadent and delicious. For another option, the raspberry or mango sorbet is another yummy sweet treat to finish off the meal. Should you fancy a tipple with your meal, Ask Italian have several red and white wines for you to choose from. Just ask for the allergen menu to see the list of options. The only slight downer was no soya milk for our coffees, but we're hoping that will change soon! Overall, in addition to the food being tasty, it was beautifully presented, the service was excellent and the restaurant itself has been fitted perfectly, with lots of ambient glow and natural colours. We will certainly be back again and again and hope to see you there! Buon Appetito!
